Belarusian law enforcers told to be ‘men of the people’

MINSK, 11 February (BelTA) – The performance of Belarusian law enforcement agencies should be evaluated by the public response instead of statistics. Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko made the statement during the expanded participation session of the Investigation Committee on 11 February, BelTA has learned.

The head of state underlined that statistics reflects results of the work of law enforcement agencies and can be used to analyze the effectiveness of these efforts. But the response of the general public is what matters, the President was convinced. “We don’t need window dressing and showoffs,” said Alexander Lukashenko. The President encouraged Belarusian law enforcers to just be men of the people.

The head of state repeated his instruction that the police and other power-wielding agencies should do their best to improve their public perception. The nation should like them although the feat is difficult to accomplish.

The President made it clear that all forms and methods should be used to prove that Belarusian law enforcers wear their uniforms to protect people.
