Belarusian FM to take part in 78th UNGA session in New York

MINSK, 18 September (BelTA) – A Belarusian delegation headed by Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergei Aleinik will take part in the 78th session of the UN General Assembly in New York on 19-24 September, BelTA learned from the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The 78th session of the UN General Assembly will be held in the context of the ongoing crisis of multilateralism and the aggravation of contradictions between member states.

The Belarusian delegation is set to direct its main efforts to promote the consolidating and creative agenda that emphasizes the peaceful nature of Belarus’ national priorities, and to counter the initiatives aimed at undermining the national interests of Belarus.

"Attention will be drawn to the unilateral coercive measures, in particular, their negative impact on the sustainable development of individual countries, entire regions, the world economy and trade, their contradiction to international law," the ministry said.

The Belarusian delegation will also use the UN rostrum to highlight the issues of strengthening food security.

During the 78th session the Belarusian side plans to promote the priority areas of its current chairmanship in the CSTO under the slogan "Through solidarity and cooperation to peace and security" and contribute to increasing the recognition of the organization in the UN.

During the visit to New York Sergei Aleinik is scheduled to make speeches at the general political debates of the 78th session of the UN General Assembly, to participate in the CSTO ministerial meeting, the ministerial meeting of the Group of Friends in Defense of the UN Charter, the ministerial meeting of the Group of Like-Minded People in Support of Middle-Income Countries and a number of other multilateral events.

On the sidelines of the General Assembly, the Belarusian minister of foreign affairs is set to meet with colleagues from Europe, Asia, Africa and Latin America, the leadership of the United Nations.
