MINSK, 25 October (BelTA) – Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergei Aleinik met with Secretary General of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) Imangali Tasmagambetov, BelTa learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The parties had an exchange of views on the situation in the CSTO area of responsibility and on the new challenges and threats in international and regional security. The parties also discussed the role and potential of the CSTO in responding to the current situation.
Imangali Tasmagambetov informed Sergei Aleinik about the preparations for the upcoming meetings of the CSTO statutory bodies in Minsk: a joint meeting of the Foreign Ministers Council, the Defense Ministers Council and the Committee of Secretaries of Security Councils and a session of the Collective Security Council.
The Belarusian minister of foreign affairs thanked the CSTO secretary general for supporting the Belarusian initiative to hold the international conference "Eurasian Security: Reality and Prospects in a Transforming World" in Minsk and welcomed the participation of Imangali Tasmagambetov in the conference.
Sergei Aleinik and Imangali Tasmagambetov agreed on further cooperation and joint activities as Belarus is completing its chairmanship in the CSTO.
