MINSK, 15 February (BelTA) – The Belarusian army intends to create a missile system with the effective range of over 200km in 2016-2017. Chairman of the State Defense Industries Committee Sergei Gurulev informed Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko about it on 15 February, BelTA has learned.
The head of state was also informed about the fulfillment of his instructions to develop rocket engineering in Belarus. The State Defense Industries Committee in association with the Defense Ministry is now working to create a multiple launch rocket system with the effective range of over 200km. The President was told that the task is supposed to be accomplished in 2016-2017.
Alexander Lukashenko reminded that Belarus’ Military Doctrine is a defensive one. At the same time it is necessary to have weapons to discourage potential enemies from launching a war against Belarus. “We have to have weapons capable of delivering unacceptable damage to a hypothetical enemy,” Alexander Lukashenko was convinced. This is why he has given instructions to develop missile technologies. As a result, multiple-launch rocket systems Polonez have been created. They will be received by army units by 1 July.
