MINSK, 10 January (BelTA) - Belarus has withdrawn from several international anti-corruption treaties. Law No. 348-3 of 5 January 2024 was published on the National Legal Internet Portal on 10 January, BelTA has learned.

The House of Representatives passed the bill on 22 November 2023, and the Council of the Republic approved it on 13 December 2023.

The document allows Belarus to denounce the Criminal Law Convention on Corruption of 27 January 1999, which it signed in Strasbourg on 23 January 2001, the Additional Protocol to the Criminal Law Convention on Corruption, which it signed in Strasbourg on 15 May 2003, and the Civil Law Convention on Corruption of 4 November 1999, which Belarus signed in Strasbourg on 25 March 2004.

Belarus has terminated the Agreement with the Council of Europe on the privileges and immunities of representatives of the members of the Group of States against Corruption (GRECO) and members of its inspection teams, signed in Strasbourg on 22 January 2010.

Presenting the bill to the senators, Prosecutor General Andrei Shved noted the politicized and discriminatory attitude of the Group of States against Corruption (GRECO) towards Belarus. In particular, in response to the report sent to GRECO on the compliance with the recommendations of the Fourth Evaluation Round, the Belarusian Prosecutor General's Office received an official notification on 31 March 2022 about the suspension of Belarus' membership in the said organization and the exclusion of the compliance report of the last evaluation round from the work plan for 2022.
