MINSK, 17 October (BelTA) - Belarus and Venezuela plan to expand cooperation in education and science. The matter was discussed during the visit of Venezuelan Minister of Foreign Affairs Yvan Gil Pinto to Belarusian State University (BSU) on 16 October, BelTA learned from the press service of the university.
“The visit to the leading Belarusian university comes as the parties intend to expand cooperation in education and science. This issue became the key one during the meeting of the minister with BSU rector Andrei Korol. The guest got familiar with the university's activities, structure and a wide range of specialties, its competitive advantages and the university’s positions in international rankings,” the university's press service said.
Yvan Gil Pinto outlined the priority areas of cooperation. They included artificial intelligence, bio- and information technologies, as well as social sciences. Today, according to the diplomat, Venezuela is interested in the Belarusian experience of training highly professional specialists in these areas and is ready to share its best practices. Such an approach will help strengthen interstate cooperation and effectively confront the scientific and technological challenges of our time.
Andrei Korol emphasized the university’s readiness to implement most of the projects discussed. For this purpose, it is necessary to decide on those responsible for the implementation of the proposed initiatives and the necessary resources. As for the language barrier issue, the rector said that foreign students had the opportunity to study in English and get pre-university training to master the Russian language.
The program of the minister's visit to BSU also included a lecture on Bolivarian Diplomacy of Peace. The lecture was attended by professors and students, representatives of Belarusian public organizations, diplomatic missions of different states. At the end of the meeting the minister left a memorable entry in the BSU book of honorary guests. The visit to BSU took place as part of the official visit of the Venezuelan minister of foreign affairs to Belarus on 16-17 October.
BSU cooperates with Venezuela in accordance with the cooperation agreement with Simon Rodriguez National Experimental University. The university also maintains contacts with the Venezuela’s embassy in Belarus.
