MINSK, 11 March (BelTA) – Belarus will represent the interests of the Russian Federation in the Joint Consultative Group of the Treaty on Conventional Armed Forces in Europe (CFE), spokesman for the Belarusian Foreign Ministry Dmitry Mironchik told media on 11 March, BelTA has learned.
On 10 March Russia officially announced its decision to suspend its participation in the meetings of the CFE Joint Consultative Group and asked Belarus to represent its interests in this body, Dmitry Mironchik informed.
“In response to Russia’s request, Belarus has agreed to represent its interests in the group impartially and with no prejudice to its own position,” Dmitry Mironchik noted.
“Belarus regards the Joint Consultative Group as the most convenient format for exchanging views on the future of this regime with other CFE member states. We believe that subject discussions on this matter can be resumed in the Joint Consultative Group if there is a political will on the part of all stakeholders,” Dmitry Mironchik added.
