Belarus to attend ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly

MINSK, 3 August (BelTA) - Deputy Chairman of the House of Representatives Valery Mitskevich will take part in the 44th ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) on August 6-9. It will be held in Jakarta, Republic of Indonesia and will focus on the theme “Responsive Parliaments for a Stable and Prosperous ASEAN”, BelTA learned from the press service of the House of Representatives.

Valery Mitskevich is set to speak at the plenary session of the General Assembly and to take part in a dialogue with ASEAN observer countries on the topic "Parliamentary cooperation: Shared commitments to peace, stability and prosperity".

The vice speaker is scheduled to hold a number of bilateral meetings with the heads of delegations, to discuss bilateral cooperation between Belarus and the ASEAN participating and observer countries.

Established in 1977, the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations is a platform for interaction and exchange of information between parliaments of the organization's member countries. The IPA ASEAN is designed to promote cooperation and maintain close contacts between its members, observer countries and parliamentary organizations.

The ASEAN AIPA members are Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. The Republic of Belarus joined the ASEAN AIPA in 2011 and regularly attends the General Assembly meetings.
