Belarus, South Africa to celebrate 30 years of diplomatic relations

MINSK, 23 February (BelTA) - The Ministry of International Relations and Cooperation of South Africa hosted a meeting between Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to South Africa Aleksandr Sidoruk and Chief Director of the Central and Eastern Europe and Baltic Countries Department Phumzile Mazibuko, BelTA learned from the Belarusian diplomatic mission in the Republic of South Africa.

The parties discussed the organization of joint events to mark the 30th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between Belarus and South Africa, which is to be celebrated on 4 March. The parties also talked over bilateral meetings, visits, and negotiations planned for 2023.

The diplomatic relations between Belarus and South Africa were established on 4 March 1993. An embassy of the Republic of Belarus in Pretoria was opened in January 2000. The legal framework between the Republic of Belarus and the Republic of South Africa includes intergovernmental agreements on trade and economic cooperation, on avoidance of double taxation, on scientific and technical cooperation, on military and technical cooperation, on visa-free travel on diplomatic and service passports, and on contacts in culture and art.
