MINSK, 9 August (BelTA) – Statements and unfriendly actions of European bureaucrats cannot affect the independent path of development Belarus has chosen, BelTA learned from the statement released by the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in response to the European Union’s reaction to another anniversary of the presidential election in Belarus.

The Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted that statements by High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell, the foreign ministers of Baltic states and Poland, politicians of other European Union countries on the occasion of another anniversary of the presidential election in Belarus rely wholeheartedly on cliched untruthful accusations addressed to Belarus.

The Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stressed: “It is obvious that the European Union cannot live with the fact that three years ago the situation in Belarus did not follow the script written in Brussels. We are forced to once again disappoint Mr Borrell and other individuals – statements and unfriendly actions of European bureaucrats cannot affect the independent path of development the Republic of Belarus has chosen. The path of peace and creation.”

The ministry pointed out that despite illegal sanctions, the closure of airspace and the blocking of borders, information pressure, and provocations on the part of individual members of the European Union Belarus has managed to keep and strengthen its statehood, ensure security and economic stability.

The statement reads: “The Belarusian model of progressive development and meaningful transformation of society has proved its stress-resistance and viability. The rhetoric and hypocritical concern of the EU and its member-states for the Belarusian people should not mislead anyone. Sanctions against entire sectors of our country grossly violate social and economic rights and undermine the livelihoods of thousands of ordinary Belarusians. The aggressive policy of the European institutions towards Belarus leads nowhere and is detached from life. It is becoming more and more obvious to citizens of the EU itself. European voices of common sense increasingly often break through the total Western censorship. It becomes more and more difficult to hide from the European public the real state of affairs in our country which can be visited without visas.”

“It is time for Brussels and other European capitals, which support, inter alia, illegal extremist formations from among Belarusian citizens, to realize that Belarus will continue to follow the chosen course, defend its independence and sovereignty, and protect peace in its land. We urge the European Union to recognize and accept the choice of the Belarusian people and to return to pragmatic dialogue in order to deliver on the potential for mutually beneficial cooperation in the interests of security and sustainable development of our whole region,” the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs concluded.
