Belarus' PM: Minsk and Hanoi mull over launching direct flights

Belarus' PM: Minsk and Hanoi mull over launching direct flights

HANOI, 8 December (BelTA) – Belarus and Vietnam are working on the issue to launch a direct flight between Minsk and Hanoi, Belarusian Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko said as he met with Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on 8 December, BelTA has learned.

At the meeting with his Vietnamese counterpart, Roman Golovchenko noted that apart from trade and economic relations there were other areas for cooperation to develop between Belarus and Vietnam. Primarily, this is the humanitarian sector.

“In this context, I would like to emphasize education. Belarus has been cooperating with Vietnam in this area since 1962. Over the time Belarus has trained 152 candidates of science and three doctors of science for Vietnam. 65 Vietnamese citizens are studying in Belarusian institutions of higher education this academic year. The Days of Education of Belarus were held in Hanoi in June 2023, and an updated agreement on cooperation in education was signed. We see great potential incooperation in training in-demand specialists for Vietnam,” Roman Golovchenko said mentioning such areas as semiconductor industry, IT technologies, nuclear and radiation safety.

“We know that these areas are of interest to Vietnam. We are ready to offer the necessary training programs,” the prime minister stressed.

In his words, a visa waiver agreement signed today will also contribute to the development of intercultural communication. “We expect that this step will lead to an increase in tourist flows in both directions. Moreover, the aviation authorities of our countries have already started working on the issue to launch a direct flight between Minsk and Hanoi,” the Belarusian head of government said.

According to Roman Golovchenko, today's meeting is very important for building relations. “The interaction between our countries relies on high-level mutual understanding and vibrant cooperation in all areas, and our today's meeting is another very important page in the history of Belarusian-Vietnamese relations,” the prime minister said.

Roman Golovchenko also noted that Belarus’ friends and partners that of course include Vietnam helped the country overcome the negative impact of unprecedented and illegitimate sanctions. “Literally before our eyes, the usual system of international relations is being transformed into a new world order. New players are emerging in the international arena. The influence of regional organizations is growing in the first place. All this is happening along with the countries’ recovery from the consequences of the pandemic. But, unfortunately, we note that in international relations dialogue and interaction are often replaced by threats and coercion, not attempts by directly coercion. You know that the Republic of Belarus, as well as our ally, the Russian Federation, is under severe external pressure, connected primarily with our independent policy. We have overcome the most difficult period, ensured the sustainability of our economy, the decent level of people’s wellbeing. We have successfully restructured and developed new logistics chains for the export of our goods. This year, the Belarusian economy has been actively developing; as of today, the gross domestic product growth reaches almost 104%. I will reiterate that this is taking place amid unprecedented and illegitimate sanctions initiated by Western countries. To a large extent, we have managed to overcome the negative impact of these factors on our economy and achieve results thanks to our friends and partners, including, of course, Vietnam,” the prime minister stressed.

Roman Golovchenko also thanked his colleague for the invitation to visit Vietnam and the warm welcome the Belarusian delegation received.
