MINSK, 16 October (BelTA) – The campaign to elect members of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus is expected to begin in June 2016, BelTA learned from Chairwoman of the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Belarus Lidia Yermoshina on 16 October.
The official explained that the Belarus parliament elections are likely to take place in September 2016. The country’s election organization agency will start getting ready for the parliamentary elections as soon as the work connected with the latest presidential election is done. “I think we will start creating materials for the parliamentary elections right after the New Year’s celebration,” said Lidia Yermoshina.
The official noted that Belarus cannot make the transition to a mixed system of elections to the parliament as long as members of the parliament can be recalled. “In my opinion, we cannot do it. It runs contrary to the Constitution of Belarus. As long as members of the parliament can be recalled, the mixed system cannot be introduced. I always say that. All the members of the parliament should bear an equal volume of rights and responsibilities,” she stressed.
