Belarus invited to help Russia’s Sakhalin address shortage of skilled manpower

YUZHNO-SAKHALINSK, 4 September (BelTA) – The authorities of Russia’s Sakhalin Oblast hope that Belarus will help the region address the shortage of skilled manpower, Sakhalin Oblast Governor Oleg Kopzhemyako noted during a meeting with representatives of Belarusian and Russian federal mass media, BelTA has learned.

Oleg Kozhemyako said that Sakhalin desperately needs skilled specialists to develop agriculture in the region: animal breeding, potato farming, gardening, and selective breeding. The oblast also lacks healthcare professionals. According to the governor, Sakhalin Oblast is ready to invite specialists who will help set up a system to train skilled workers right on the island.

State Secretary of the Belarus-Russia Union State Grigory Rapota stressed that the exchange of specialists should be intensified in the Union State. “The Union State provides every possibility to boost the exchange of specialists to the regions that need them. For instance, Sakhalin Oblast is looking for experienced agricultural specialists. They should come here, look around, and share their expertise and skills,” Grigory Rapota added.

The meeting of the Belarusian and Russian journalists with Sakhalin Oblast Governor Oleg Kozhemyako was held during a press tour to the region organized by the Union State Permanent Committee and the international information agency Russia Today.
