Belarus’ Information Minister named chairperson of CIS Council for Humanitarian Cooperation

MOSCOW, 19 December (BelTA) – Belarus’ Information Minister Lilia Ananich became the chairperson of the CIS Council for Humanitarian Cooperation, BelTA learned from the press service of the CIS Intergovernmental Foundation for Educational, Scientific and Cultural Cooperation (IFESCCO).

On 19 December Moscow played host a joint meeting of the board of the foundation and the CIS Council for Humanitarian Cooperation. The meeting summed up the work in 2016 and approved the projects to be implemented with the support of the IFESCCO. The foundation has supported 57 large-scale events in culture, education, sports and youth policy. Many events were held to mark important dates in the CIS: 25th anniversary of the CIS, the anniversary of the start of the Great Patriotic War, the Year of Education in the CIS.

“The year 2017 has been declared the Year of Family in the CIS,” the press service noted. “This will become one of the central themes next year. Many activities focus on youth. These include the Issyk-Kul Forum of Young Intellectuals, Sports Family Festival, a series of reality shows “Love Knows no Borders” on the Mir TV channel. Practical support will be provided by the Forum of volunteer initiatives “Family Hearth” and the scientific knowledge will be in focus of the conference “Anthropology of the family”.

The meeting also considered the personnel issues. Belarus Information Minister Lilia Ananich became the chairperson of the CIS Council for humanitarian cooperation. Azerbaijani Ambassador to Russia Polad Bulbuloglu was reelected chairman of the board of IFESCCO.
