Belarus eager to promote contacts with Equatorial Guinea across the board

Belarus eager to promote contacts with Equatorial Guinea across the board

MINSK, 7 September (BelTA) – It is important for Belarus to promote contacts with Equatorial Guinea across the board, Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergei Aleinik told BelTA. The minister had participated in negotiations between the presidents of Belarus and Equatorial Guinea in the Palace of Independence on 7 September.

Sergei Aleinik stressed that the visit of Equatorial Guinea President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo to Belarus is a logical continuation of the strategy to establish Belarus’ relations with remote countries, with friendly countries, and certainly with countries on the African continent. It is a priority today, he noted.

Sergei Aleinik went on saying: “Africa is a continent of the future. We are now jointly working on stepping up the entire complex of bilateral relations while focusing primarily on economic cooperation. There is a serious mutual interest. There is a great desire to develop economy. I’d like to point out that the economy of Equatorial Guinea is one of the leading economies on the African continent nowadays. At the same time the extraction of raw materials makes up 90% of the economy.”

Equatorial Guinea is Africa’s third largest oil extractor and has rather a well-developed port infrastructure. “For Equatorial Guinea it is important to ensure the intensive development of its agriculture, to ensure food security and enable more comfortable conditions for sustainable economic development and wellbeing of citizens,” Sergei Aleinik noted. “This is why we have something to offer to partners from Equatorial Guinea, who are interested in examining our industrial potential and agricultural technologies. It is important to discuss the advancement of cooperation in healthcare, education, culture, IT industry, and many other fields.”

“There are no restrictions with regard to the bilateral agenda,” the Belarusian minister of foreign affairs noted.

The official underlined: “The fact that we’ve managed to organize this visit and reconcile rather a serious package of bilateral agreements on a tight schedule testifies to the strong mutual interest of the countries in priority cooperation.”

“The visit will give a serious impulse and will create a reliable foundation for further persistent advancement of cooperation between Belarus and Equatorial Guinea,” Sergei Aleinik believes.
