MINSK, 19 October (BelTA) - Belarus and Cuba have the potential to expand cooperation in international parliamentary organizations, Chairwoman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly Natalya Kochanova said as she met with President of the National Assembly of People's Power of Cuba Juan Esteban Lazo Hernandez, BelTA reports.
"Belarus and Cuba have the potential to expand cooperation in international parliamentary organizations such as the Inter-Parliamentary Union, the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network," Natalya Kochanova said. “In the above-mentioned organizations we can team up to counter politicized initiatives of Western countries, to develop and promote joint initiatives on topics of mutual interest, to counter the illegal sanctions policy and the politicizing of human rights issues and using them to interfere in the internal affairs of sovereign states, to oppose discriminatory decisions in sport, culture and education and to prepare thematic statements on behalf of Belarus and Cuba and like-minded states"
"We propose to hold a meeting between the parliamentary delegations of Belarus and Cuba on the sidelines of the 147th IPU Assembly in Angola, which will be held in just a few days," the speaker added.
