MINSK, 5 April (BelTA) – Speaker of the Council of the Republic Mikhail Myasnikovich discussed prospects for setting up joint pharmaceutical companies with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Cuba to Belarus Juan Valdes Figueroa on 5 April, BelTA learned from the press service of the upper house of the Belarusian parliament.
The sides touched upon trade and economic cooperation. Belarus and Cuba have the potential to strengthen it and have something to offer each other, the Belarusian speaker believes. He named medicine, pharmaceutics, science, technology, and tourism among the top-priority avenues of cooperation. Mikhail Myasnikovich and Juan Valdes Figueroa discussed Belarus-Cuba partnership in medicine production and prospects for establishing joint ventures in this field. “We could team up to launch some groundbreaking projects, including export-oriented ones,” he underlined.
Mikhail Myasnikovich and Juan Valdes Figueroa also talked about ways to improve the system of mutual payments for goods and services and strengthen the interparliamentary ties. “Our countries maintain stable trust-based relations and high-level political contacts. We support each other in international organizations,” the speaker stated.
In turn, the Cuban ambassador showed interest in cooperation in tourism. In this context, he offered to consider launching direct charter flights between Belarus and Cuba. Mikhail Myasnikovich said Belarus will study this proposal.
