Belarus’ affordable healthcare services praised

MINSK, 24 April (BelTA) – Belarus is one of the world leaders in terms of the affordability of healthcare services for the population. Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko made the statement at a session of the 7th Belarusian People’s Congress, BelTA has learned.
Aleksandr Lukashenko said: “Belarus is one of the world leaders in terms of the affordability of healthcare services for the population.” As little as ten years ago organ transplantation was a historical event in Belarus. Today it is a free and quite widespread surgery for Belarusians. More than 500 surgeries like that are made not only in the capital city but also in the oblast capitals every year.
“Over three decades without false modesty I can say that we’ve secured unbelievable results in the sacred matter of baby births,” the president stated. One can be justifiably proud of the fact that Belarusians have managed to reduce maternal mortality by more than 6 times and baby mortality by 5.3 times. These are some of the lowest figures in Europe and the CIS states. Thanks to in vitro fertilization over 4,000 little Belarusians were born in the last five years.
Belarus is ranked 20th among the countries with the most comfortable conditions for maternity.
