Aleinik, Lavrov meet in Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs

Aleinik, Lavrov meet in Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs

MINSK, 25 October (BelTA) – Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergei Aleinik and Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergey Lavrov met in Minsk, BelTA has learned.

Sergey Lavrov arrived in Minsk to participate in a high-level international conference on Eurasian security.

Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergei Aleinik noted that the meeting in Minsk represents a good opportunity for discussing bilateral interaction and cooperation in international organizations as well as regional and global problems. In his words, the occasion for the meeting was a very good one, too – the organization of an international conference on Eurasian security. Sergei Aleinik thanked his Russian counterpart for backing the very idea of organizing the conference and for accepting the invitation to participate in it. “We expect tomorrow’s event to make a substantial contribution to the formation of at least contours of Eurasian security,” Sergei Aleinik said.

Sergey Lavrov agreed that the organization of the conference was timed well. Participation in the conference will provide an opportunity to discuss a number of topics not only with Belarusian colleagues but with participants from other countries. “It is high time we started moving towards the formation of a Eurasian platform, a system, a structure of security,” the official stressed. “There is no single organization that covers all the problems of our continent. There is the OSCE, which does it only partially. It covers a small part of our Eurasian continent. They say the organization is worn out and no longer serves its purpose. There are also ASEAN, SCO, CSTO, and the Eurasian Economic Union. But certainly, without uniting all the organizations that exist on this continent it will be more difficult to use all the competitive advantages that this common space provides for the benefit of all our countries and nations.”
