Yermolovich, Tataritsky to become Eurasian Economic Commission ministers from Belarus

MOSCOW, 26 December (BelTA) - On 25 December, the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council approved the new members of the Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) at a meeting in St. Petersburg. The new members will begin work on 1 February 2024, BelTA has learned from the EEC press service.

Thus, Maksim Yermolovich, who currently holds the post of Deputy Head of the Belarus President Administration, has been appointed as Member of the Board – Minister in charge of Competition and Antitrust Regulation. The current Chairman of the Belarusian State Committee for Standardization Valentin Tataritsky has been appointed Member of the Board – Minister in charge of Technical Regulation.

The EEC Board consists of 10 people - two representatives from each member country of the Eurasian Economic Union: Chairman of the Board and nine ministers. On 1 February,  Bakytzhan Sagintayev of Kazakhstan will replace Mikhail Myasnikovich of Belarus as Chairman of the EEC Board. Another representative of Kazakhstan, Bakhyt Sultanov, will retain the post of Member of the Board – Minister in charge of Economy and Financial Policy.

Representatives of Russia will also retain their positions in the EEC Board. Thus, Sergei Glazyev will remain Member of the Board - Minister in charge of Integration and Macroeconomics, and Andrey Slepnev will remain Member of the Board (Minister) for Trade.

Varos Simonyan, Member of the Board – Minister in charge of Internal Markets, Information Support, Information & Communication Technologies will also retain his post. Gohar Barseghyan, a new representative from Armenia, received the portfolio of Member of the Board – Minister in charge of Industry and Agroindustrial Complex.

Representatives of Kyrgyzstan will retain their positions on the EEC Board: Eldar Alisherov will continue as Member of the Board – Minister in charge of Customs Cooperation and Arzybek Kozhoshev – as Member of the Board – Minister in charge of Energy and Infrastructure.

In accordance with the decision by the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council, on 1 January 2024 the Republic of Armenia will assume a one-year presidency in the EAEU bodies: the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council, the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council and the Council of the Eurasian Economic Commission. According to the EAEU Treaty, the presidency in the EAEU bodies is rotated on an annual basis in the order of the Russian alphabet. Russia held the presidency in all structures in the outgoing 2023.
