MOSCOW, 11 May (BelTA) – Governor of Russia’s Sverdlovsk Oblast Yevgeny Kuivashev handed over ten new trolleybuses made by the Belarusian company BKM Holding to the vehicle depot of the city of Yekaterinburg (the capital of Sverdlovsk Oblast) ahead of the city’s 300th anniversary, the press service of the Belarusian embassy in Russia told BelTA.

During the solemn handover ceremony Yevgeny Kuivashev said: “Together with you I take joy in our getting the first batch of ten trolleybuses. There will be a total of 50 of them. These are unique vehicles with an autonomous mode. The development of a comfortable urban environment is a priority matter in Yekaterinburg. Today’s event is another step on this road. I am convinced that such gifts are extremely important and necessary in the year of the 300th anniversary of Yekaterinburg.”

All the trolleybuses have the ability to drive without overhead power lines. This is why they can be used in the areas of Yekaterinburg where overhead power lines are not available. One trolleybus can carry up to 90 people. “I am convinced that both drivers and passengers will like the vehicles very much and the vehicles will stay operational for many years,” Director General of BKM Holding Taras Murog said.

The new trolleybuses went into service on 11 May and will be used along one of the most popular lines in the city. The other trolleybuses are supposed to be delivered by 31 October.
