Positive view on Belarus’ position in Doing Business 2018 report

MINSK, 2 November (BelTA) – First Deputy Prime Minister Vasily Matyushevsky commended Belarus’ position in the Doing Business 2018 report as he talked to the media ahead of the KEF-2017 conference “Foundations of the Future” on 2 November, BelTA has learned.

Vasily Matyushevsky remarked that according to the updated methodology, Belarus was ranked 40th in 2016 and 38th in 2017. “I think it is not bad. This ranking does not include some reforms that had already taken place. We hope that they will be taken into account next year, and our position will improve,” he said.

BelTA reported earlier that Belarus was ranked 38th out of the 190 economies covered by the World Bank’s Doing Business 2018 report. Belarus stood at the 37th position in the previous edition of the report released in October 2016.

Several parameters were evaluated to make up the total score of a country. Getting Construction Permits in Belarus scored 22 (28 in the Doing Business 2017 report), Registering Property — 5 (5), Paying Taxes — 96 (99), Resolving Insolvency — 68 (69). As many as ten indicators were analyzed in total. This year the data on almost every indicator remained intact.
