PM: Two units of Belarusian nuclear power plant have generated over 20b kWh of electricity

MINSK, 16 October (BelTA) – Two units of the Belarusian nuclear power plant (BelNPP) have generated more than 20 billion kWh of electricity, Belarus’ Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko said as he met with Rosatom Director General Aleksei Likhachev, BelTA reports.

“We agreed that we would meet at the final stage of the BelNPP project to discuss its readiness for commissioning, as well as areas of further cooperation, including the operation of the nuclear power plant,” said Roman Golovchenko.

According to him, during this time a lot of work has been done to thrash out further cooperation plans. “In general, we have reached agreement on such areas of cooperation as nuclear medicine, manufacturing, additive technologies, energy storage devices, and digitalization. Draft program documents are in the pipeline,” the prime minister noted.

Commenting on the operation of the Belarusian nuclear power plant, he said that everything is going on as planned. “Literally the other day, a comprehensive testing of the second unit was completed – this is the final stage before the nuclear power plant is put into operation,” said the head of government. “The two units of the Belarusian nuclear power plant have generated more than 20 billion kWh of electricity,” he informed.

After the nuclear power plant comes online, the government will focus on new high-tech areas in its collaboration with Rosatom. “I am sure that Belarus will be one of the links in your wide network of projects on the territory of the Union State,” added Roman Golovchenko. “We are ready to discuss all issues on the agenda.”
