MINSK, 21 September (BelTA) – The IMF mission deployed to Belarus for the period from 19 September to 1 October will discuss a new loan program with Belarus, IMF Mission Chief for Belarus Peter Dohlman told reporters on 21 September, BelTA has learned.
“We will discuss the program with Belarusian government authorities next week. Our main goal is to ensure progress in this process,” Peter Dohlman said.
The IMF Mission Chief for Belarus pointed out that previous meetings were focused on reforms of state-owned enterprises. Peter Dohlman said such reforms are necessary “to improve the management of these enterprises and ensure their smooth operation”. The previous meetings also discussed issues related to price liberalization and reforms of the housing and utilities rates. Peter Dohlman said that the IMF believes the Belarusian government is taking the right approach to the development of the national monetary and fiscal policy.
“As for the text of a possible loan agreement between the IMF and the Belarusian government, it will be made available as soon as it is ready,” Peter Dohlman explained.
BelTA reported earlier that an IMF mission led by Peter Dohlman is working in Belarus from 19 September to 1 October. The previous visit took place from 21 to 30 June. The IMF specialists assessed the country’s economic policy and held annual Article IV consultations with Belarusian authorities.
