BMZ increases export to USA, Germany in 2014

GOMEL, 27 January (BelTA) – In 2014 the Belarusian Steel Works (BMZ trademark) exported over 2 million tonnes of metal products, up 5.6% in money terms. The supplies to Germany and the USA went up from 7.4% to 11.7% and from 5.6% to 7.1% correspondingly, which places them among top-five customers of the company together with Russia, Poland, and Lithuania, BMZ Press Secretary Alexander Olesik told BelTA.

The commodity distribution networks currently operated by joint ventures in more than ten countries of Europe, America, and Asia significantly contribute to the successful promotion of BMZ's products in foreign markets. In 2014 the BMZ commodity distribution network in the European countries generated some $494 million in sales proceeds, 56.1% of the company's total.

The meeting that discussed the results of BMZ's foreign trade in 2014 and goals for 2015 was held in Zhlobin with the participation of the heads of the German, Polish, Russian, Austrian, Chinese, and American companies-members of the commodity distribution network. The participants agreed that the special role of the commodity distribution network will be to look for clients and sell the products of the new enterprises. For example, the commissioning of BMZ's new long-product rolling mill will require increasing the supplies of metal products to the markets of the USA by 10,000 tonnes, Europe by 185,000 tonnes, Russia by 35,000 tonnes, and other regions by 120,000 tonnes. The commodity distribution network should also find customers for 445,000 tonnes of BMZ's products, including 99,300 tonnes of metal cord, 43,100 tonnes of bead wire, 42,300 tonnes of wire for high-pressure hoses (RML wire), and 261,000 tonnes of cold-worked reinforcing bars and wire.

Founded in 1984, the public joint-stock company OAO Belarusian Steel Works (BMZ trademark) is the managing company of the holding company BMC. The enterprise specializes in cast bars, profiled iron, rolled steel, reinforcing bars, metal cord, wire for high-pressure hoses and other kinds of wire. BMZ exports over 80% of the output to more than 60 countries. The company employs over 12,000 people.
