Belarus to cooperate with Russia's United Aircraft Corporation to make aircraft components

MINSK, 2 February (BelTA) – It is important for Belarus to cooperate with the Russian company United Aircraft Corporation (UAC) in order to start its own production of aircraft components, BelTA learned from Chairman of the State Defense Industries Committee of Belarus Sergei Gurulev on 30 January.

“The main purpose of this integration is to get OAO 558 Aircraft Repair Plant [in Baranovichi] to use its assets to make aircraft components. Now planned evaluation is in progress. After that I will present the report to the head of state,” said Sergei Gurulev. He explained that the Belarusian side intends to start making components both for military and civil aircraft. “You know that there are Superjet and MS-21 aircraft. We should be part of the program. We have not been denied the opportunity yet despite changes in the management of United Aircraft Corporation,” said the Committee’s Chairman. “Sukhoi’s Superjet 100 is a new Russian passenger aircraft while MS-21 is another passenger liner in development in Russia. MS-21 is scheduled for its first flight in 2016”.

Speaking about the previously announced plans for United Aircraft Corporation to become a shareholder in OAO 558 Aircraft Repair Plant, the official said that it was too early to talk about it because the Belarus president has not made the relevant decision yet.

The concept for developing cooperation between the Belarusian company and the Russian corporation was worked out in 2014 in addition to the feasibility study for the Russian company to become a shareholder of the Baranovichi-based company. A joint manufacturing program for OAO 558 Aircraft Repair Plant and OAO United Aircraft Corporation up to 2025 has been compiled.

Apart from that, in 2015 the Belarusian company intends to fulfill orders for the repair of 14 MiG-29 fighter jets (a training and combat modification) and nine military helicopters Mi-24 for foreign customers. For the Belarusian army the company will repair eight MiG-29 fighter jets and two combat and training attack aircraft Su-25. In 2015 the Belarusian company also intends to master the repair and modernization of the fighter jet Su-30K and master the repair of the jets Su-27SK and Su-30MK. The company will also continue the work on mastering the repair of engines VSU AI-9B and will start taking care of repairing the carrying system of the military helicopters Mi-8 and Mi-24.

In 2014 OAO 558 Aircraft Repair Plant fulfilled multiple aircraft repair orders for foreign customers. The company also repaired MiG-29 fighter jets for foreign customers for the total price of over $66 million, fighter bombers Su-24M4 for the total sum of over $2.6 million, and multipurpose attack helicopters Mi-35 for the total sum of over $10.8 million.
