Belarus’ grain harvest reaches 8.5m tonnes

MINSK, 14 October (BelTA) - Some 8.5 million tonnes of grain crops and rapeseed have been threshed in Belarus, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Agriculture and Food Ministry.

As of 14 October, some 8,501,000 tonnes of grain crops and rapeseed were cropped in Belarus. This included 7,460,200 tonnes of grain and leguminous crops as well as corn.

Brest Oblast, Grodno Oblast and Minsk Oblast have completed planted winter crops. Across the country winter grain crops have been sown on 1,437,400 hectares (93.5% of the plan).

Harvesting of corn kernels is underway in all the regions of the country, with 133,700 hectares already cleared. Some 1,077,000 tonnes of corn kernels were threshed, with the yields averaging 80.6 centners per hectare. Some 19,883,700 tonnes of corn for silage were cropped so far.

Belarus harvested 701,600 tonnes of potatoes. The yields average 351.8 centners per hectare.

Sugar beet harvesting is also in progress in Belarus. Some 2,344,400 tonnes of sugar beet were removed, with the yields standing at 457.3 centners per hectare.
