MINSK, 31 July (BelTA) – Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Belarus to the Republic of Cuba Valery Baranovsky told the STV TV channel about the export of Belarusian products to Cuba and other countries, BelTA informs.

Commenting on the statements about the increase in trade between Cuba and Belarus, Valery Baranovsky noted: “We have an agreement on mutual supplies that provides for cashless transactions, which means that the amount of our export to Cuba equals the amount of our import from this country.”

The ambassador highlighted the interaction of the two countries in the pharmaceutical field. “This cooperation is smooth and incremental. We regularly exchange delegations, register medicines, share  mechanisms, we also run various enterprises. We have recently registered two pharmaceutical products in Cuba,” the diplomat said. He also emphasized that Belarusian milk will be in demand in Cuba. “All dairy products will go like hot cakes. Now the first batch of powdered milk might already be shipped to Cuba in line with the first contract. It will arrive in three to four months. Let’s see how this will work.”

Valery Baranovsky noted that Belarus has already started cooperation with Nicaragua. “A contract will be signed to supply 15 MAZ vehicles for the municipality of Managua. Amkodor has also set its sights on this market, Minsk Tractor Works wants to sell its tractors there, too. Now we are implementing this first contract to supply equipment worth $1 million. The potential is huge. They have made friends with China. There used to be a problem because of Taiwan. They have signed an agreement to exchange goods duty-free, China mostly supplies food. In fact, Nicaragua has a very fertile land. However, only 44-45% of the land is cultivated. That is, 50% of fertile land is not used, because there is not enough equipment and not enough people. It seems to me that the government of the country is moving in the right direction. They have built 4,000 km of roads,” he added.

The ambassador also said that supplies of Belarusian equipment to Nicaragua are under discussion. “This idea holds a lot of promise. In principle, the country’s leadership, Ortega [President of Nicaragua] and his team, are doing the right thing – they are weaning themselves off from  dependence on one state. At present, no matter how paradoxical it may seem, the main exporter, importer and investor is the USA,” he concluded.
