Ambassador sketches prospects for industrial cooperation between Belarus, South Africa

Ambassador sketches prospects for industrial cooperation between Belarus, South Africa

MINSK, 20 November (BelTA) - Belarus intends to establish industrial cooperation with the Republic of South Africa and participate in the minerals production in that country,  Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to South Africa Igor Bely told the media, BelTA has learned.

As the head of state stressed as he appointed Igor Bely new ambassador to South Africa, the main task of Belarusian diplomats in Africa will be to promote economic cooperation.

"As for South Africa, we will not limit ourselves to the supply of our products. We will work on cooperation in the manufacturing sector: the assembly of our agricultural machines in the first place. Africa is rich in minerals. Southern Africa is especially richly endowed in minerals, and we have very good competencies in both the production of quarrying equipment and mining. This avenue of cooperation is on the agenda," Ambassador Igor Bely noted.

The Republic of South Africa is a member of BRICS, the diplomat recalled. Belarus applied to join the organization in May. "Therefore, the political agenda of my work will also be very packed and we will promote it," the ambassador stressed. "If we look at the economy, South Africa is practically the most developed country in Africa, so the prospects are great."

Ambassador Igor Bely will also be concurrently accredited as the Ambassador of Belarus to Botswana, Mozambique and Namibia. The president instructed to pay attention to these countries. By the way, Mozambique has access to the Indian Ocean, and Namibia to the Atlantic.

"Logistics is now the Achilles' heel of our foreign trade. Therefore, we will also be working on logistical issues," the diplomat added. “Mozambique's economy is similar to that of Zimbabwe. In Zimbabwe we have very good results, so my task will be to scale up the experience of our work in Zimbabwe to Mozambique and achieve the same results."

Ambassador Igor Bely noted that not only Europeans are now present in the African market. For example, China and Vietnam are actively exploring this continent. "Almost the whole world realizes that Africa is the future and without Africa we will not be able to ensure our economic growth. Therefore, the competition there is very fierce, especially in South Africa. But I think that our high-quality products will be able to win this competition," the head of the Belarusian diplomatic mission is convinced.

As it was reported, on 20 November Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko mace new appointments and appointed ambassadors to China, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Serbia and Indonesia.
